At the heart of Glenorchy sits Camp Glenorchy, your home away from home and the perfect base from which to discover Glenorchy.
#1 Visiting the Farm Park
Glenorchy Animal Experience is a family farm, surrounded by stunning scenery and offering fun encounters with a large variety of friendly farm animals. Anything from lambs to a Clydesdale, from Guinea Pigs to Llamas and much more can be patted, fed and watched. You can also watch the daily sheep shearing demonstrations in the woolshed at 2:30pm. It's a great place to visit and you can really get up close with the animals.
#2 Wilderness Biking
Mounting Biking is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, and Glenorchy won’t disappoint the biking fans out there. With nearby trail rides for all abilities, you’ll love discovering the area on two wheels. Cycle through the nearby Glenorchy Lagoon boardwalk, and wake the ducks early in the morning, or head up into the hills for a more exhilarating ride.
Don't have a bike? No problem - simply rent a mountain bike from us for a few hours or days, choosing from a hardtail bike, full suspension adrenalin monster or let an eBike take the strain whilst you focus on the views.
#3 Lord of the Rings Discovery
When you arrive in Glenorchy, you’ll fully appreciate why Sir Peter Jackson choose so many of his locations in our area. Journey into Middle Earth and explore the many unique Lord of the Rings filming locations between Queenstown and Glenorchy and within Mt Aspiring World Heritage National Park.
#4 Photography Opportunities in Abundance
On the shores of Lake Whakatipu, just to the edge of Glenorchy sits one of the most photographed huts in New Zealand. But to be honest, there are photo opportunities in abundance throughout the area - from lake views to mountain tops. Amateur and professional photographers alike love this area, just take a look at #glenorchy!
#5 Fun on the Water
Nestled at the headwaters of Lake Whakatipu and beside the Dart River, Glenorchy is the perfect place to get out on the water. For the adrenalin addicts, there’s some of the best jet boating in the country but don't ignore the white water rafting and kayaking opportunities too. For a more peaceful escape, how about a kayak around the lagoon, soaking up the views and enjoying the wildlife? And of course, for the fisherman out there, Glenorchy offers some incredible fly fishing amongst some of New Zealand’s best backcountry streams. Here you’ll find Gin-clear water offering up outstanding sight fishing for mountain river bred Brown and Rainbow Trout.

One of the best parts of having our wedding at Camp Glenorchy is that they are not just a beautiful venue, but also an amazing accommodation provider so we can keep returning as guests and remember all the great memories we made at this special place on our wedding day. The staff is also so...
