Corporate Function and Team Building Case Study

Holding a corporate event or incentive trip at Camp Glenorchy not only gives you space and flexibility it also enables you to bond as a team and enjoy the trip away.

Background

JOEY Restaurants travel the world discovering bold flavours and then transform them into signature recipes. They pride themselves on employing people who are masters of their craft, committed to making memorable experiences.

This incentive trip was for franchise owners and was based on financial results for the year. It was a 3 night experience that was packed with team activitives, challenges and of course cooking!

As Joey Restaurants is a Canadian based company most of the planning was via Zoom conferencing where we were able to plan and deliver a hands experience for the whole group. A traditional Maori welcome gave a great cultural experience and the team were able to work with local produce and celebrate NZ food & wine.

Utilising Camp Glenorchy spaces

The group specifically chose Camp Glenorchy for the community commercial kitchen. Most of the group were Chefs so the groups were split into teams and had cook offs. The flexibility in being able to use the well-appointed kitchen space was the main draw card, with the added bonuses of the conference space  & AV facilities. The relaxed dining  & lounge areas as well as the outside BBQ areas and laundry facilities meant it was home away from home.

The spacious modern kitchen enabled the group to have cooking demonstrations, cook offs and also prepare their own meals to eat as a group in the large dining room. The outside BBQ's also added another dimension to the menu and saw them cooking grilled fish as well as meat on the grill.

Itinerary

The trip was carefully planned with our Events Manager and packed full of activities both at Camp Glenorchy and the local area. The trip was pre-planned but designed to give them the opportunity to see the stunning vistas and experience Glenorchy township. Outdoor activities included funyaking, fishing in the Dart River, helicopter tours and guided walks. The team also had the option to book an in house massage and the group loved the village walking distance feel to Glenorchy taking advantage of the local golf club and local country pubs.

Seeing as the group were chefs they decided to cook for themselves each night and Camp Glenorchy ordered all the food for the 3 nights. The evening meals were themed so the group had to design a menu and meals along these themes. The large commercial kitchen and dining area were the perfect space for this and enabled the group to bond and work together in a very friendly social and relaxed atmosphere.

Testimonial

The setting was fantastic, and there was an excellent variety of different activities around Glenorchy that we could use for team building,” Chaffe says. “The venue allowed a group this size to all be in one place, plus the fact we had a kitchen we could use was great.”

Chaffe notes the bonding element was greatly cemented at Glenorchy. “Often when we do these incentive trips people are in hotel rooms and there’s not really a spot to be together. At Camp Glenorchy, after we made our own meals, the group got together to wash the dishes. And we had a camp ‘Talent Show’. This event was really fun, really team-oriented.”

Most importantly, the hospitality we experienced from the entire team at Camp Glenorchy was top-notch, our entire group was very impressed which is no easy feat considering we are all from the hospitality industry! From the beginning stages of pre-planning, the team on-site while we were there, and the wrap-up… we could not be more grateful. They really made us feel at home.

Our Reviews

This is our 4th visit to Camp GY. We absolutely love it. We married here last August and continue to return. The philosophy behind this project, the innovation of the build, the attention to detail, the art and creativity that has been invested is incredible. It is luxurious and very high tech...
