Meet your hosts

Grant Taylor

Grant is one of New Zealand’s most awarded winemakers, earning a string of gold medals and trophy accolades throughout his long career. However, none surpasses winning the trophy for ‘Best Pinot Noir’ at a major International Wine Competition in London an unprecedented four times – a feat achieved by no other winemaker in the world.

Grant established Valli in 1998 after eighteen years of winemaking experience in the USA, Australia, France, and New Zealand.

As a pioneering winemaker in Otago, Grant produced the first vintages for many of the region’s well-known labels including Mt Difficulty, Felton Road, Carrick, Peregrine, Mount Edward, Hawkshead, Mondillo, Bald Hills, and Rockburn.

Grant has kept his American ties along the way, helping to establish Oregon’s renowned Pinot Noir producing winery, Archery Summit, in 1995.

Grant will take you on an introductory wine journey guiding you on through a wine tasting and sharing his knowledge and passion for Pinot. You’ll learn Pinot’s subtle regional variations along with an approach to matching the wine with Hannah’s delicious menu!

Hannah Miller

Hannah Miller, from Oregon (USA), went to The Culinary Institute of America to train as a chef and it is there where she first heard about nose-to-tail dining. Hannah started her journey with butchery whilst working at the Paternoster Chophouse in London, where she's learned all things "nose-to-tail" and fell in love with the whole process.

As a lover of meat and passionate consumer of it Hannah’s company “A Lady Butcher” came out of a desire for better charcuterie (cured meats) in New Zealand. She says back then it was nearly impossible to eat New Zealand charcuterie. It was mostly imported which seemed insane as New Zealand has some of the best quality meat in the world. She says there was nothing to be done but cure meats herself. Hannah will be taking you through a masterclass in Lamb - the perfect accompaniment to Pinot!

You’ll learn the cuts of lamb, how to prepare them, some basic butchery, and the cooking methods and styles that work best. All that while inspiring your thinking on flavours, textures and how these work with Grants superb wines.

The location

Glenorchy is nestled between two stunning mountain ranges, a glacier-clad peak, and two rivers—the Dart and the Rees—which braid together to form the headwaters of Lake Wakatipu. One of the most beautiful places in New Zealand.

Enjoy a food and wine immersion while experiencing the award-winning facilities and accommodation at Camp Glenorchy Eco Retreat, one of the 100 World's Greatest Places according to TIME Magazine 2019.

Our Reviews

Best eco accommodation This place is awesome. I would give it 10 stars if I could. It is inspiring in terms of sustainability. My family (husband and two daughters - 12 and 16) are still complaining that we didn’t stay longer. Well done architects and designers. We will be back and will...
