An immersive hands-on food & wine experience in one of the country’s most scenic alpine locations. Join Grant Taylor, one of New Zealand’s most awarded winemakers, & Hannah Miller, founder of A Lady Butcher, for a hands-on “Pasture and Pinot” event.

 

The team at Camp Glenorchy has partnered with Grant Taylor, founder of Valli Vineyards, and Hannah Miller, the founder of A Lady Butcher, to bring you a 2-day interactive weekend workshop.

Enjoy the superb hospitality and comfort of Camp Glenorchy whilst gaining some insight and skill from your talented hosts – Grant & Hannah.

This workshop has been designed for food and wine lovers who are looking for a unique hands-on experience with passionate professionals that will lead you on a gastronomic journey.

Your experience

Grant and Hannah will be your hosts and guides for the weekend and look forward to welcoming you at 10 am on Saturday to start your weekend's journey! Your hosts will be taking you and your fellow participants through hands-on workshops throughout the day

 

Lamb Masterclass

Hannah is a font of all knowledge when it comes to meat and she is excited to share her knowledge with you. In this lamb masterclass Hannah will demonstrate how to butcher lamb cuts and give you hints and tips on how to cook and prepare this delicious meat. She will be there to guide you and answer questions along the way in this informative morning cooking class. 

 

 

The workshop takes place in our spacious and fully equipped, modern kitchen. Where you will learn the cuts of lamb, how to prepare them, some basic butchery, and the cooking methods and styles that work best. 

 

Guided Wine Tasting

After a beautiful lunch in the Homestead Dining Room you will be joined by one of New Zealand's most awarded winemakers Grant Taylor. His enthusiasm for the world-famous Central Otago Pinot Noir grape is truly infectious. Enjoy an afternoon and experience 'A journey of Pinot' with this interactive wine session where you will enjoy a guided tasting of the award winning Valli Wines.

 

 

The wine tasting takes place in our stunning homestead which has beautiful mountain views and is the perfect place to sit back relax and learn all about this stunning New Zealand wine.

 

Lunch, Charcuterie Tasting, and Dinner with Wine Match

We have included all meals for the duration of your stay. Rest assured that you will be well fed all weekend, and have some delicious wine to go with every meal. Hannah will prepare some snacks for you in between the lamb masterclass, and you will have a wine match for every meal after that: lunch, afternoon charcuterie tasting, pre-dinner platters, and dinner. You’ll explore flavour and taste combinations and match your favourite wines throughout the meals.

Finish the day on a sweet note with a cheese board matched with a glass of Riesling by the fireplace.

 

Sunday Activities

After a great night's sleep, Sunday morning starts with a delicious cooked breakfast prepared by Hannah with the special Lady Butcher lamb bacon. Continental breakfast items will also be available on the buffet.

Then you have time to either join an Arts and Sustainability tour around Camp Glenorchy with our Camp Host and Nicole, who participated in the creation of the stonework around the Camp, or go on a guided tour up to Paradise Trust, where you will see some of the high-country farms in the area, and the majestic views up the valleys.

11am - 11.45am Butchery demonstration with Hannah

11.45am - 12.30pm Cooking class and snacks

12.30 Lunch is served

2pm - 3.15pm "A journey in Pinot" tasting session with Grant Taylor

3.15pm - 4pm Pinot, Pancetta & Prosciutto tasting with wine match guided by Hannah and Grant

4pm - 6pm Time at leisure to explore the Glenorchy village, or take a rest after so much delicious food and wine

6pm - 6.30pm Pre-dinner platters and drinks by the Scheelite Campfire Shelter

6.30pm - 8.30pm Shared-style dinner and wine match in the dining room

8.45pm Cheeseboard and wine match

Sunday 12 September

 

8am Continental breakfast buffet and Hannah's cooked breakfast served in the dining room

9.30am - 10.30am Arts and sustainability tour at Camp Glenorchy, or

Meet your hosts

 

Grant Taylor

 

Grant is one of New Zealand’s most awarded winemakers, earning a string of gold medals and trophy accolades throughout his long career. However, none surpasses winning the trophy for ‘Best Pinot Noir’ at a major International Wine Competition in London an unprecedented four times – a feat achieved by no other winemaker in the world.

Grant established Valli in 1998 after eighteen years of winemaking experience in the USA, Australia, France, and New Zealand.

Hannah Miller

 

Hannah is from Oregon (USA). She went to The Culinary Institute of America to train as a chef and it is there where she first heard about nose-to-tail dining. Hannah started her journey with butchery whilst working at the Paternoster Chophouse in London, where she's learned all things "nose-to-tail" and fell in love with the whole process. As a lover of meat and passionate consumer of it Hannah’s company “A Lady Butcher” came out of a desire for better charcuterie (cured meats) in New Zealand.
