Your head guide:
Born in Oamaru, Shaun has always had a passion for the outdoors. After studying Physical Education Sport and Exercise Sciences at university, he then went on to spend six seasons guiding on the Milford and Routeburn Tracks. Shaun has experienced the tracks in sunshine, rain, snow, thunder, lightning, earthquakes, flooding, pandemic, state of emergency evacuations… he’s seen it all!
Shaun loves getting to meet all kinds of people from many different backgrounds while guiding, so there’s no better person to be looking after you and your kids! He brings the nature around us to life and you will all walk away having seen fauna and flora that you may never have seen before.
Make the most out of your time in Glenorchy:
If the kids still have energy after their guided walk then we have a big outdoor green area where they will love to play, and an indoor area with a selection of board games in case the weather isn't great. We will also arrange a family movie night one evening, with popcorn (only with parents' consent). Why not get the family together around the sheltered outdoor fireplace, toasting marshmallows, telling stories and watching the sunset behind the magnificent mountains.
Only a short walk from Camp Glenorchy, you will find a big playground, a skatepark and various walking tracks around the lake and the lagoon, where you can spot swans, native birds, and be amazed by the 360 degrees mountain views.
Glenorchy also offers a range of activities that are great for families. You can hire electric or normal bikes to explore the area, visit an animal farm, or go horse riding, ziplining, 4WD exploring, and more. Check out a full list of activities at our Activities page. Our team is happy to advise or book activities for you at no extra booking cost, contact us and we'll take care of it for you.
Camp Glenorchy welcome families of all ages and has rustic-luxe chalets enabling families to share a chalet with the privacy of seperate rooms. All cabins are ensuite and have tea and coffee making facilities. They have an outside verandah to take in the stunning mountain views and are all close to the main homestead.
You really need to go to Camp Glenorchy to see and hear all about it for yourself. It is an amazing place to stay and interact with others or just have quiet time in one of the many comfortable spaces. The staff are passionate about the concept and explain everything in detail. It is not a camp...
